Steve K. Smith today is serving his fifth term on the Florida Keys Mosquito Control Board, and is currently seeking a sixth term. A Daytona Beach, Florida native, Smith moved to the Florida Keys in the late 1980’s. He brings to this leadership role his dedication to public service as well as his lifelong sensitivity to balancing ecological principles with sound business practices in keeping with Florida’s best traditions. Preventing mosquito transmitted diseases including the Zika virus from emerging in the Florida Keys is paramount to Smith’s seeking another term. Under his leadership the mosquito program has changed from using pesticides as their main method of vector control to realistic source reduction, utilizing trained domestic inspectors and an environmentally safe larvicide.
Smith regularly travels to Washington and Tallahassee, meeting with State and Federal elected officials keeping them informed of the progress of the Keys Mosquito program and advising them of any regulatory changes affecting the districts they represent.
Smith is a member of the American Mosquito Control Association and the Florida Mosquito Control Association where served four years as a board member, elected to this position by mosquito commissioners throughout the State of Florida.Victory Fund
